The Effect of Professional Identity on Learning Engagement:A Multiple Mediation Model

Abstract: Learning engagement is a kind of positive, fulfilling mental state about learning. Based on the previous research, professional identity had acceleration effect on learning engagement. But the mechanism of the effect of professional identity on learning engagement still need to be studied further. This research constructed a multiple mediation model to test the mediating effect of positive academic emotion and academic delayed gratification on the relationshipbetween professional identity and learning engagement. This study tested 300 undergraduate students with College Students Professional Identity Questionnaire, College Students General Academic Emotion Questionnaire, Academic Delayed Gratification Scale and Chinese version Learning Engagement Scale. The structural equation model showed that: (1) professional identity had significant positive predict ability to learning engagement; (2) the mediating effect test showed that positive academic emotion and academic delayed gratification ability had a multiple mediating effect on professional identity and learning engagement. This study found that professional identity was helpful to arouse students positive academic emotion and academic delayed gratification ability and proved that academic emotion and selfcontrol ability had combined effect on learning engagement, which had certain guiding significance for improving college students learning engagement.
