MetaAnalysis of Relationship between OptimismPessimism and Subjective Well Being

Abstract: This study assessed the relationship between optimismpessimism and the subjective well being, and explored some factors affecting the relationship. In the present study, 41 studies were used and analyzed by metaanalysis. The results were:(1) Overall, the correlations between optimismpessimism and subjective well being(including life satisfaction, positive affection, negative affection) were highly strong.(2) Cultural differences moderated the correlation significantly; the correlation in American culture is higher than in Chinese culture.(3) Whether were college students or not didnt moderate the correlation between optimismpessimism and subjective well being. The results indicated that optimism and pessimism were significantly correlated with subjective well being, and cultural differences moderated the relationship.
