Anthropomorphism: The Psychological Application in the Interaction between Human and Computer

Abstract: Anthropomorphism describes the tendency to attribute humanlike qualities to nonhuman agent, making it a live person with feelings and thoughts. Currently, anthropomorphism is more widely used in the domain of humancomputer interaction. This study introduces the theoretical background of anthropomorphism and gives a detailed explanation to the psychological significance of anthropomorphism on the application and effect of humancomputer interaction. The future research directions of anthropomorphism lie in the investigation of the anthropomorphic application boundary and utility maximization on humancomputer interaction from the perspective of designers and users, as well as the exploration of the process of dehumanization.
